Vida G. Goldinger

Vida G. Goldinger, 99, of Worthington, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016. 

She was born July 29, 1916, in Spring Church, the eighth of eighteen children born to F. Ralph and Bertha Bittner Shellhammer.

Vida and her husband, Homer Lawrence Goldinger, owned and operated the family farm in Rattigan for many years. Local people remember buying eggs, home-churned butter, and fresh milk from their farm near Rattigan.  Homer died in a tragic farming accident in 1969.  Vida married Charles Burns of Cowansville in 1972 and they remained married until his death in 2001.

She attended the Chicora Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and was active in the door-to-door ministry well into her 90's.  She was known for her beautiful quilts, excellent pies, and strong work ethic. 

She is survived by one son, Daniel Goldinger and his wife, Mary, of East Brady; three grandchildren, Marcy (and James) Phipps of Lancaster, SC, James (and Kathy) Goldinger of Worthington with whom Vida made her home since 2014, and Matthew (and Carrie) Goldinger of Ligonier, and; three great granddaughters, one great-great-grandson, and six siblings.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Monday.  A memorial talk will be given at 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home by Matt Bellin from the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Interment will be in Worthington Lutheran Cemetery.  For additional information or to send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com.
