He was a 1958 graduate of Hooker High School and served six years in the Pennsylvania National Guard.  He enjoyed working on his oil wells, hunting, and being outdoors, and most especially the company of his grandkids and looked forward to attending their sporting events.  Bill enjoyed going to auctions for many years and he and his wife, Kay, were well known regulars shopping and selling at flea markets far and wide, where Bill was best known for his signature handcrafted “spoon rings”.

Bill retired as a locomotive engineer from Armco in Butler in 1994 following more than 34 years of service.

Bill is survived by his wife, Kay Dawn Bartoe Barnhart, whom he married at the Martinsburg Church in Bruin on September 18, 1964. The couple recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are two sons, Mark W. Barnhart and his wife, Sheri, and Joel T. Barnhart and his wife, Paula, all of Chicora; Bill was affectionately "Pap" to his grandchildren, Nathan, Neal, Logan, and Luke Barnhart; two step grandchildren, Maria and Gino Pascazi; a brother, John E. Barnhart and his wife, Phyllis, of Meridian; two sisters, Patricia Delaney and her husband, Lester “Bud”, of Karns City and Gloria Winghart and her husband, Jerry, of Butler, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
