William Dodd Obituary

William H. "Joe" Dodd, 79, of Grove City, a longtime Fairview resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family late Tuesday evening, March 24, 2026 at AHN - Grove City Hospital.  

William was born in Butler on April 4, 1946. He was the son of the late Howard and Catherine Stadnyk Dodd. Joe attended Fairview Township Karns City High School. In his earlier years, he enjoyed trail riding on horseback, hunting, fishing, trips to the casino, and most especially enjoyed taking his family to the North Washington Rodeo. Joe was the well known and respected sexton and caretaker at Bear Creek Cemetery in Petrolia for many years. He was first employed at Pullman Standard in Butler and later worked in the maintenance department at Chicora Medical Center.  

Joe enjoyed the company of his companion of many years Irene K. Jones who preceded him in death on February 4, 2018.  

Joe is survived by his son Dale Dodd and his wife Candi of Mercer and his daughter Tracy Pyle and her husband Dave of Grove City. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Chance Hall and his wife Kendra of Beebe, AR, Dylan Dodd and his wife Angela of Mercer, Kaylin Farmer and her husband Joe of Butler, Jaxen Pyle, and Lukas Pyle both of Grove City; four great grandchildren, Jadyn, Kendlyn, Madisyn, and Langstyn; a sister Kathy Mullen and her husband Paul of Fredonia, a sister in law Phyllis Dodd of Karns City, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson Jason Pyle, a brother, Ronald "Butch" Dodd and a sister and brother in law Sheila and Bob Smith.  

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City 128 Main St. Karns City from 1-4pm Sunday. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 4pm with the Rev. Dennis Barger, a longtime family friend and pastor of the Scrubgrass Stone Church in Emlenton, officiating. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery.
