Raymond K. "Ray" Ruth Obituary

Raymond K. "Ray" Ruth, 62, of Butler, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Born in Pittsburgh, Ray was the son of the late Calvin J. Ruth Sr. and Sherry Keller Ruth McClaren.

Ray was of the Catholic faith and a proud 1982 graduate of Knoch High School, where he excelled as an athlete and talented baseball player. His love of sports remained a constant throughout his life, as he continued playing in baseball leagues for many years and remained a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins.

More than anything, Ray will be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. Whether sharing a joke, telling a story, doing an impersonation, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends, he had a gift for bringing smiles to those around him. He cherished time spent with loved ones and never missed an opportunity to create memories filled with laughter.

In his younger years, Ray was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He carried with him a deep appreciation for friendship, family, and the simple joys of life.  Though he will be deeply missed, Ray’s laughter, love of sports, and the countless memories he shared with family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Ray is survived by his beloved children, Victoria L. Radcliffe and her husband, Josh, and Joshua R. Ruth, both of Pittsburgh; his brother, Calvin J. Ruth and his wife, Michele, of Prospect; his sister, Sherrie R. Lane and her husband, Robert J., of Pittsburgh; and the mother of his children and former spouse, Sherri Ruth of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his siblings, Diedre Ruth Elder, Sandy Ruth, Kim Oberc, and J. Scott Ruth.

Family and friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, on Thursday, June 25 from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service follow at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Miracle League at https://www.mlswpa.org/.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
