Myrna D. Schrecongost, 88, a long time Fairview resident, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025 at her home.
Myrna was born in the Village of Kepple’s Corners, near Chicora, on May 27, 1936. She was the daughter of the late W. Dale and E. Louise Kemmerer King. She was a 1954 graduate of Fairview Township Karns City High School. Myrna was the well-known writer of Karns City Area High School’s alma mater. She was a longtime member of the Karns City United Methodist Church. Myrna enjoyed bowling, golfing, and was a member of the Foxburg Country Club. She retired from Bobbie Brooks in Butler.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, Donald V. Schrecongost, whom she married in Kepple’s Corners on June 2, 1954. Mr. Schrecongost preceded her in death on November 5, 2023.
Myrna is survived by three children, David V. Schrecongost of West Sunbury, Stephen C. Schrecongost of Latrobe and Dale Lynn Schrecongost of Fairview; four grandchildren, Joshua D. Schrecongost of Butler, Kiersten H. Schrecongost of Slippery Rock, Adam Schrecongost (Nikki) of Fredericksburg, VA and Seth S. Schrecongost (Jess) of Latrobe; her great grandchildren, Destiny, Madison Lynn, Braden Scott, Leighayla, Jordan, Devin, Paisleigh, Landen, Brielle and Lemmy; two sisters-in-law, Gail Schrecongost, of Chicora and Katherine Groux of Houston, TX, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Obie G. King, two brothers-in-law, Edward Schrecongost and Donald Groux, and a nephew.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 1-4 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 1 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Beverly Roscoe, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by former church pastors Jim Lewis and Glen Kohlhepp. Interment will be in Hillview Cemetery in the Village of Kepple’s Corners.
