Mildred Ruth Baumgart

Mildred Ruth Baumgart, 104, of Chicora, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, March 3, 2026 at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

Mildred Ruth was born in East Butler on December 29, 1921.  She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys Bauder Byrnes.  She was a graduate of Chicora High School and was a longtime active member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.  Ruth looked forward to casino trips with her sisters, traveling and camping in the motorhome with her husband, quilting and metal detecting.  Ruth had visited all 50 states.  She and her husband enjoyed parties, singing, and dancing with family and friends.  Ruth was fond of her collie dogs “Laddie 1” and “Laddie 2”.     

Ruth was married at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora on June 26, 1943 to Anthony J. “Bookie” Baumgart.  Mr. Baumgart preceded her in death on March 31, 1985.

She is survived by a sister, Roseanne McCollough of Cabot, and a number of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary June McGrady Lowers, three brothers, Joseph, Donald and James Byrnes, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

A funeral mass will be celebrated at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora at 11am on Thursday with Rev. Ward Stakem, Senior Parochial Vicar at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, officiating. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.  Memorial contributions in Mrs. Baumgart’s name may be made to the Chicora Fire Department, P.O.
