Melanie Ann Lowrey

Melanie Ann Lowrey, 80, of Foxburg, passed away in the comfort of her home on Tuesday morning, April 25, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer. Melanie was born on October 6th, 1942, the daughter of the late Hiram and Emma Melaney Ashbaugh of St. Petersburg. She was a 1960 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School and went on to study at Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her RN certification. Melanie earned many specialized certifications in nursing. She was a dedicated nurse at hospitals in both Michigan and Pennsylvania for over forty years.

Melanie was married to the Reverend Canon Edward Lowrey on September 14th, 1963, at the Memorial Church of Our Father in Foxburg, where Edward was the vicar. They went on to serve churches in Maine, Pennsylvania, and Michigan before settling in Melanie’s childhood home in Foxburg. The couple had three children, Douglas, Rebecca, and Patrick.

Melanie was dedicated to her community, serving on the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School Board from 2007-2015, as well as other local organizations. She was also an avid animal lover, spending her life with many beloved pets who were surely there to welcome her home. She loved spending time gardening and caring for loved ones. She most especially enjoyed the company of her three grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

Melanie is survived by her husband, The Reverend Canon Edward Lowrey; her children, Douglas Lowrey of Foxburg, Rebecca Lowrey of Shelby, NC, and Patrick Lowrey and his wife Jennifer of Emlenton, PA; and her beloved grandchildren, Anna and Caroline Lowrey of Cleveland, OH and Maxwell Lowrey of Emlenton.
