Laura E. “Laurie” Patsy, 59, of East Brady, passed away late Thursday evening, September 30, 2021 in the comfort of her home, while surrounded by her loving family following a courageous eight and a half year battle with cancer.
Laura was born in Butler on September 21, 1962. She was the daughter of the late Lois E. Leeger Hutchison Hillwig, and James L. “Jumbo” Hillwig; and the late Edward Hutchison. Laurie was a longtime, well known, East Brady area waitress, having worked for more than thirty years at Hillcrest Restaurant and later the Plaza Pantry. Among her many friends and patrons, Laurie was “Mama P” never shying away from her spit fire attitude or her feisty personality. She was most especially known for her passionate and outspoken opinion in support of the second amendment and our right to bear arms.
She and her husband, Tim, were avid old custom van enthusiasts and were part of the vanner community for more than forty years and enjoyed traveling to attend van events. Laurie also enjoyed long drives in the country looking for wild life, playing scrabble in the evenings, visiting her camp in Tionesta, and a cold beer at the campfire. She was a devoted grandmother, affectionately known as “MaMa” by the grandkids who were “her world”. She most especially looked forward to taking the grandchildren to fairs.
Laurie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Tim Patsy; two children, Brad Patsy and his wife, Dawn, of Cowansville, and Tiffany Doran and her husband, Mike, of White Plains, MD; three grandchildren, Ciara, Peyton, and Hudson; a brother, Jim Hillwig and his wife, Darya, of Amarillo, TX, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
A private graveside service was held at Brady’s Bend Cemetery with the Rev. Paul DeBacco, pastor of Criswell Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Patsy’s name may be made to the East Brady Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 365, East Brady, PA 16028 or to Hope For Your Future, P.O. Box 643, Rimersburg, PA 16248. The family would like to say a special thank you to Lutheran Senior Services and UPMC Hillman, especially Connie and all the other nurses.
