Kathleen McNallen Steiner Obituary

Kathleen McNallen Steiner, of Butler, formerly of Chicora, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Kathleen was born in Butler, on August 1, 1949.  She was the daughter of the late John E. and Mabel Coyle McNallen and was raised in Chicora.

She was a 1967 graduate of Karns City Area High School and in her earlier years had attended Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.

Kathleen looked forward to the company of her many friends, to whom she was affectionately, “Kate.” She graduated from Business School and had been employed in a variety of clerical and professional positions in several communities before landing in Aiken, SC.  There she found her niche and worked as a paralegal for an Aiken Law firm for 15 plus years prior to moving to Butler in 2012.  Despite her physical limitations, she remained quite active in and around her home.  She continued to utilize her paralegal training and experience in the Butler area acting as an Ombudsman and helping veterans and others in need.  Her favorite hobbies were crocheting and baking.  Kate was a very caring person, always thinking about how she could help others, whether it was baking cookies for the neighbors, providing children’s books for the kids, collecting clothing and other items for the veterans, the needy, and local nursing homes.

Surviving are her sisters and brothers, Maureen Gray of Butler, Melissa McNallen of Fox Chapel, Patrick McNallen of Championsgate, FL,  and Michael McNallen and his wife, Pam, of Annapolis, MD, as well as a number of  nieces,  nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and aides at the Butler Memorial Hospital for their kind and professional care during her stay at the hospital.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Friday.  A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, officiating.  Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.  Contributions in her name may be made to the Area Agency on Aging, 111 Sunnyview Circle #101, Butler, PA. 16001.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
