James Montgomery Obituary

James E. Montgomery 67, of Acworth, GA, formerly of Oil City, passed away peacefully January 30, 2019 at Kennestone Hospice Center.

He was born March 23, 1951 in Oil City, PA to Harold Montgomery and Kathryn (Sterling) Montgomery.

Jim’s wife of 45 years, Debra Wiles Montgomery, passed away six days after James.  Surviving are three sons, Todd Montgomery (Jennifer) of Madison, WI, Marcus Montgomery (Ashlee) of Acworth GA and Stephen Montgomery of Acworth GA.  Also surviving are three brothers, William (Patty) Montgomery of Meadville, Robert “Turk” Montgomery of Oil City and Tom Montgomery of Pittsburgh as well as nieces and nephews.  Jim had 4 grandchildren Jackson and Declan (Todd) and Reese and Mason (Marcus). He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold “Nern” Montgomery.

Jim was an avid sports fan particularly for all Pittsburgh professional sports teams as well as Penn State athletics.  The fondest memories of his life came coaching his three sons play Little League Baseball in Oil City and was a mentor to many young athletes.  He found great joy spending time with his four grandchildren and family and most importantly time in retirement with his wife.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, 409 N. Main St., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor, officiating.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.  Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora. The family has set up a go fund me page set up in Jim and Deb’s name to support the Oil City Little League, of which Jim had a profound effect coaching many young men and women.  The link for more information is: gofundme.com/a-cause-jim-and-deb-cared-about-needs-support.
