George R. “Chip” Whipkey III, 64, of Ford City, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 17, 2021 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

George was born in Bellefonte, Centre County, on January 29, 1957.  He was the son of the late George R. II and Marjorie Kane Whipkey.

He was a 1975 graduate of Kittanning High School.  He attended Penn State University and graduated from Triangle Technical Institute.  He was of the Protestant faith.

George had been employed as a meter technician by West Penn Power and retired in 2020 following 35 years of service.

One of George’s greatest passions was riding his Harley Davidson Road Glide.  He loved his German Shepard, “Riley”.   He enjoyed camping, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, sky diving, and boating on his pontoon on the Allegheny, where he was affectionately known as “Captain George”.  He enjoyed the company of his family, most especially his grandchildren, and looked forward to family vacations.  George was very patriotic and proud of his family heritage.  He was a member of The Sons of the American Legion in Vandergrift, a dedicated active member of The American Legion Riders and the Sons of the American Revolution.

Surviving is his wife, Lori A. Augustine Whipkey, whom he married in Winchester, VA on March 29, 1991.  Also surviving are two daughters, Samantha and Danielle and her husband, Chad; two grandchildren, Carter Jacob and Adrianna Marie, all of Ford City; his sister, Janet Whipkey Kellner and her husband, Joel; his niece and nephew, Jenessa Heller and her husband, Ty, all of Kittanning, and Joel Dustin Kellner and his wife, Eden, of Lower Burrell; his sisters-in-law, Terri Loughrey and Jackie Fahlor and her husband, Tom, and a niece, Annie Hartman; his mother-in-law, Noreen Venturini and her husband, Don, and his father-in-law, John Augustine, as well as a number of cousins and many close friends that George considered family.

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora.  A celebration of life service will be announced by George’s family at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Ride for Homeless Vets, 1012 Coe Street, Tarentum, PA 15084 or online at rideforhomelessvets.com.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
