George Larimer Obituary

George R. Larimer, 86, of St. Petersburg, a decorated US Navy veteran passed away peacefully at Shippenville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Thursday morning, October 13th, 2022.

 

George was born in Greenfield, Mercer County on May 10, 1936.  He was the son of the late David and Elsie Larimer. After graduating high school in 1954, George enlisted in the US Navy. Following a distinguished career of more than 20 years, he retired with the rank of Chief Boiler Technician in 1977. George served aboard the USS Johnston in the Pacific Reserve Fleet in Stockton, CA, the USS Enterprise, which was the country’s first nuclear carrier, in Long Beach, CA, and the USS Kearsarge and USS Forrestal, both in Norfolk, VA, Later, he was also stationed at the Naval Reserve Training Center in Cleveland, OH. George was the recipient of several Vietnam service medals and citations, including the Bronze Star Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. George had been a long time member of the American Legion Post 636, Foxburg, and VFW Post 7078 in Parker.  

 

George moved to St. Petersburg with his wife and two daughters in 1977. He had been employed by Landers Gas and Oil Company, for Guy Shoup at Venco Trucking, and by Preston Painting. In his later years, George enjoyed spending time at the Parker Senior Center. 

 

George is survived by his daughter, Angela Page, and his grandson, Nathan Page, both of St. Petersburg; his sister whom he adored, Juanita Watts and her husband, Ernest. George enjoyed the cards and letters from his sister while at the nursing home. He is also survived by his former wife, Janice Landers, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Larimer, his brother and sisters-in law, Dave and Myrtle, Ed and Shirley, Bill and Ruth, Charles and Virginia and John Larimer.

 

Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home Inc. in St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in George's name may be made to the St. Petersburg Vol. Fire Company, PO Box 81, St. Petersburg, PA 16054.
