Frances D. Nichol Obituary

Frances D. Nichol, 82, of Karns City, passed away while in the company of her family on Tuesday afternoon, June 4, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital following complications of heart surgery.

Frances was born in Karns City on October 3, 1941.  She was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Amelia M. Fuhs Sherwin.

She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church.  Frances was a 1960 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and a graduate of beauty school in Pittsburgh.  She was first employed by Christy’s Salon in Butler and later operated her own salons in Chicora and Karns City.  Frances enjoyed crafts.  She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed the company of her cats and dogs.  She and her husband, Skip, enjoyed attending truck pulls.  She looked forward to spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert J. “Skip” Nichol, who passed away on November 22, 2023.  The couple was married in Chicora on November 27, 1964.

Surviving are two daughters, Julie L. Cranmer (Chris Bole) of Karns City and Crystal A. Zedreck and her husband, Edward, of Chicora; three grandchildren Rebba Stillwagon and her husband, Jake, of East Butler, Nicholas Cranmer and his wife, Mariah, of Fenelton, and Logan Cramner of Karns City; a brother, William “Bill” Sherwin of Petrolia; a sister-in-law, Judy E. Nichol of Brady’s Bend, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 1-4 p.m. Sunday.  A funeral liturgy outside of Mass will follow at 4 p.m. from the funeral home with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare Parish, officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Columbarium at Hillview Cemetery, Kepple’s Corners.  Memorial contributions may be made to Orphans of The Storm, PO Box 838,Kittanning, PA 16201 or the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Rd., Renfrew, PA 16053.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
