David Wayne “Dave” McGinnis, 81, of Callensburg, formerly of Foxburg, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, August 15, 2023, following a lengthy illness. His family was by his side when he drifted off to be with the Lord.
David was born in Foxburg on April 9, 1942. He was the son of the late Marcus Wayne and Mary Alice Wade McGinnis. Dave was of the Methodist faith.
Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Meals McGinnis, whom he married in Clintonville on July 31, 1965. Mrs. McGinnis passed away Nov. 2, 2013.
Throughout his working life, Dave was employed at several different companies. He retired from Venco Trucking in Foxburg.
Dave enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren, his dog, “Spiker doodle” and cat, “Marvin”. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and crawling the hills in Foxburg, weed-eating and mowing at the cemetery and his house. He loved spending time sitting on the porch telling his kids stories about when he was young.
Dave is survived by his two daughters, Tarena Lehnortt and her companion, Jason Rottman, of Knox, and Pamela Shay and her husband William, of Callensburg; a son, David Alan Meals, of Kingsbury, IN; a son-in-law, Everett Lehnortt of Foxburg; six grandchildren, Tiffiny Shirey and her husband Josh, of Emlenton, Tina Painter and her husband Kolt, of Sligo, Peyton and Kyndel Shay, of Callensburg, Christopher Detar, of Florida, and Mary Detar, of Butler; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Josh, Tyler, Halee, Kolton, Zay, Damarae; three sisters, Mary Savage, Phyllis McGinnis, and Elaine Shirey; three brothers, John McGinnis and his wife Marian, Thomas McGinnis and his wife Romaine, and George McGinnis and wife Kris; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his wife, Dave was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Meals; a son, Gary Wade McGinnis; two grandsons, Jeffery Detar and Dylan Meals; a sister, Belva Grantz; two brothers-in-law, Camillus Shirey and John Savage, and his nephew, Medal of Honor Recipient, PFC Ross McGinnis.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove Street, St. Petersburg from 1-3 and 6-8 PM today (Thursday). A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday from the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Myers, a retired United Methodist Pastor officiating. Interment will be in Foxburg Cemetery.
