Clarence W. "Bud" Bishop Jr. Obituary

Clarence W. “Bud” Bishop Jr., 91, of Fairview, passed away in the comfort of his home while in the company of his family Friday, December 20, 2024.

Clarence was born in Kaylor, Armstrong County on June 17, 1933.  He was the son of the late  Clarence W. Bishop Sr. and Nellie Greenawalt Bishop Zavilla.

He was a 1951 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School and a long time active member of the former Fairview United Presbyterian Church where he served as church custodian.  Bud had been employed as an investigator with Equifax.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing at St. Jude.  In his later years, Bud enjoyed gardening.    He enjoyed coaching and umpiring baseball.  Bud was affectionately “Pup” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed family trips to the beach at Nags Head.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the Army Corp of Engineers in Korea.  Bud played baseball internationally while serving in the Army.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Miller Bishop, whom he married at the Fairview United Presbyterian Church on August 24, 1956.  Mrs. Bishop preceded him in death on September 14, 2024.

Surviving are three children, Lisa R. McElroy and her husband, Gerald, of St. Simons Island, GA, Lori K. Martin and her husband, Timothy “Pepper” of Fairview, and Matt Bishop and his wife, Gretchen, of Chicora; 12 grandchildren, Nathan, Brett, Elizabeth, Shawn, Mark, Jennifer, Ryan, Meghan, Holden, Lillianne, Clare, and Evalyn; nine great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Phylllis Zavilla of Sarver; a sister, Marilyn Pittman of Richmond, VA, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael J. Bishop; his step father, Paul Zavilla; a sister, Eleanor Hogan Delaney; a brother, Paul Lee Zavilla and a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law

Interment will be with his wife in Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia.  Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Red Brick Church, PO Box 204, Petrolia, PA 16050.  Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
