Bernice M. Meissner, 70, of Butler, passed away in the company of her loving family Saturday afternoon, November 4, 2023 at Sunnyview.
Bernice was born in Butler on July 19, 1953. She was the daughter of the late Henry J. Jr. and Catherine L. Heasley Le Grand.
She attended Butler schools and was a 1993 graduate of Butler County Community College where she earned an associate degree in psychology. She had also obtained her nurses aid certification and had been employed at Sunnyview for 20 years.
Bernice was an avid Steeler fan, and enjoyed flower gardening, music, watching the news on TV, spending time on Facebook, and most especially the company of her kids and grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. Meissner, whom she married in Fenelton on August 9, 1991.
Surviving are three children, Raymond A. Gurner Jr., Damian N. Gurner, Tiffany A. Meissner; two grandchildren, Destiny and Dylan Gurner; her siblings, Lorraine Cottage (Ronald) and Larry Le Grand Sr., Henry J. Le Grand III (Barbara), Beverly Undercuffler (Howard), Theresa Kepple, Richard Le Grand Sr. (Lynn); her mother-in-law, Kathleen Meissner, all of Butler, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Catherine Gurner; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Eunice and Paul Brown, Dianne and Robert Neal, her brother-in-law, Robert Kepple Sr., her sister-in-law, Judy Le Grand, and her father-in-law, James Meissner Sr.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday. A service outside of Mass will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Lou Pascazi, parochial vicar, St. Clare of Assisi Parish, officiating.
