Barbara A. Macurak Obituary

Barbara A. Macurak, 88, of Chicora, passed away late Friday night, October 7, 2022 at Sunnyview in Butler.

Barbara was born in Pittsburgh on October 16, 1933. She was the daughter of the late John and Anna Hastings Gajewski.

She graduated from high school on Pittsburgh’s South Side. Barbara was a homemaker and enjoyed crochet, quilting, sewing and gardening. She most especially enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Barbara was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.

Barbara was married to Joseph A. Macurak at St. George Church in Allentown, Pittsburgh on May 2, 1953. Mr. Macurak preceded her in death on November 21, 2013.

Barbara is survived by her children: Joseph J. Macurak and his wife Karen, James Macurak and his wife Debbie, all of Karns City, Jerry Macurak and his wife Diane, of Bruin, John Steven Macurak and his wife Ellen, of Sligo, Jeannette Macurak of Erie, and Beverly Filges and her husband Jim of Chicora; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Richard Gajewski and his wife Carolyn of Mechanicsburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Phillips.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Butler for not only being caregivers, but family for the past six years.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 4-8 pm Monday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 864 Chicora Rd., Chicora, with the Rev. Matt McClain, pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, officiating. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora. Memorial Contributions in Mrs. Macurak’s name may be made to a charity of ones choice. To send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com.
