R. Burdette Karnes

R. Burdette Karnes, 84, of Mariasville, a retired Emlenton area businessman, passed away late Wednesday afternoon, November 13, 2019 in the comfort of his home while in the company of his wife and daughter.

Burdette was born in Clintonville on February 22, 1935.  He was the son of the late Clark and Mildred Shirey Karnes and had attended a number of different schools in the Emlenton/Clintonville area.

Burdette was a truck driver for his entire working life and was the longtime owner operator of Karnes Trucking near Emlenton.  He also had been employed as a truck driver for many area coal companies  including Sunbeam Coal, Allison Engineering, Mack Coal Company, and C&K Coal Company.  In his earlier years, he had also been employed by Hillcrest Dairy near Foxburg.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Eakman Karnes, whom he married in Alum Rock on February 8, 1956; his children, Jeffrey A. Karnes of Parker, Pam Smith and her husband, Larry, of Emlenton and Kevin Brown of Huey; his grandchildren, Jeb Karnes and his wife, Tonya, Nicholas Smith and his wife, Mindy, and Shane Smith; two granddaughters, Teri Karnes and Malinda Smith; two great grandsons, Hayden Smith and Gabriel Jack; two great granddaughters, Lillian Smith and Audrianna Jack, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Burdette was preceded in death by a son, Clark Karnes, a daughter-in-law, Gina Karnes, his brothers and sisters, Alma, Shirley, Florence, Delores, Maxine, Gerald, Wayne, Arnold, and Lamont.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday.  A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev.
