Mary Joann “Mary Jo” Fugini, 73, a well-known Chicora resident, passed away early Monday morning, December 17, 2018 at the Chicora Medical Center.
Mary Jo was born in Butler on December 28, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Lewis W. and Bertha M. Patsy Fugini. She was a 1962 graduate of Karns City High School and graduated from Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. In her earlier years, Mary Jo was employed by Jaffee’s in Butler and was later employed by Mellon Bank in Chicora for more than thirty years. She retired from Dr. DeFrancis’ office in Chicora. Mary Jo enjoyed collecting and sharing cookbooks and recipes, decorating her home for the holidays, and most importantly, the company of her family. She was an avid reader and had been an active member of the West Sunbury Library. Later, Mary Jo was instrumental in founding the Chicora Community Library and served on its board of directors as treasurer.
Mary Jo is survived by her siblings, Linda L. Draper Fugini, and her husband, Ronald D., of Chesapeake Beach, MD, Karen A. Fugini, of Ebensburg, and Richard L. Fugini and his wife, Min Jae, of Ravenna, OH, as well as a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, with the Rev. Matt McClain, church pastor, officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the mass. Private family interment will be beside her parents in Hemphill Cemetery in Chicora. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary Jo’s name may be made to the Chicora Community Library, 160 Medical Center Rd. Chicora, PA 16025.
