Ken Weeter

Robert Kenneth “Ken” Weeter, 83, of Mariasville, Salem Twp., Clarion County, went to be with the Lord early Thursday morning, December 21, 2017 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca.

Ken was born in Richland Twp., Venango County, on March 1, 1934.  He was the son of the late Gerald E. and Nellie A. Grimm Weeter.

Ken was a 1953 graduate of Emlenton High School.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Ken had earned the rank of Corporal and served in the 8th Army’s 409th Transportation Co.

Mr. Weeter was a 50 year member of Allegheny Valley Lodge F&AM.  He was a long time active member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Lamartine, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, elder, and usher and sang in the choir.   Ken enjoyed camping, Steelers football, and most importantly, the company of his family, especially his two grandchildren, whom he helped look after for 14 years as they were growing up.  Ken was a dedicated and loving grandpa and always looked forward to attending “his kids’” various school functions.  Ken’s favorite place in the summertime was his front porch, where he enjoyed many friendly visits with family and friends.

Ken had been employed at the Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation in Emlenton for 37 years and retired from Petrowax in 1996.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy Heckethorn Weeter, whom he married on October 8, 1954 in the Emlenton Evangelical Reformed Church.  The Weeter’s were high school sweethearts and enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage.  Also surviving are two daughters, Pamela Baker and her husband, Lon, of Marble and Julie Lander and her husband, Russ, of Cranberry; two grandchildren, Adam Lander and Rebecca Lander, both of Cranberry; a brother, Harold Weeter and his wife, Anne, of Conway, MI; two sisters, Dorothy Neely of Emlenton and Mary Jean Milford of St. Petersburg; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill Heckethorn and his wife, Paula, of Emlenton, Jean Carlson of Findlay, OH, and Kay Courson of Sligo, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Dreibelbis and his brothers-in-law, Harris Driebelbis, Harry Milford, James “Jim” Neely, Roy Courson, and Art Carlson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 30 at the Salem United Church of Christ, Turkey City Road, Lamartine, with the Rev. Chris Lewis, church pastor, officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor guard of Franklin.
