Joseph Phillips Obituary

Joseph Phillips, 93, of Chicora, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2018 at Whispering Fields Personal Care Home in Chicora. 

Mr. Phillips was born in Kaylor on April 18, 1925.  He was the son of Dominic and Anna Juiffre Phillips.  Joe was a long time active member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora and had been a member of the Holy Name Society.  In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting, golfing, visiting casinos, and working on cars.  He retired in 1987 from Whitco Chemical in Petrolia following more than 40 years of service.  Joe was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. 

Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Agnes Bresnahan Phillips on December 20,1994.  The couple was married on May 23, 1944.

He is survived by five children, Mary Jo Farone and her husband, Joseph, of Chicora, Mike Phillips and his wife, Sandy, and Barbara Kiley and her husband, Theodore “Ted”, all of Butler, Patricia Carli and her husband, Dominic, of Kittanning, Connie Bearfield and her husband, David, of East Brady, as well as eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grand children, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Sally Bresnahan of Butler, and a sister-in-law, Esther Carosi of Florida, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to his wife and parents, Joseph was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ann Phillips, four brothers, four sisters, as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. 

There will be no public visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, Chicora with the Rev. Rick Thompson, church pastor, and the Rev. John Butler, pastor of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Brady’s Bend, concelebrants.  Interment with military honors accorded by the Chicora, Brady’s Bend, and East Brady American Legion Posts will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Village of North Oakland.
