Jack F. Leavy, 86, of Turkey City, passed away late Monday evening, July 1, 2019 at Clarion Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Jack was born in Turkey City on January 23, 1933. He the son of the late James and Cecelia E. “Bess” Baynham Leavy.
He was a 1951 graduate of St. Petersburg Richland High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was of the protestant faith and enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Jack was retired from Knox Glass.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Shreffler Leavy, whom he married in Clymer, NY on April 5, 1956. Also surviving is a daughter, Tracey L. Whitehill and her husband, Timothy, of State College; a son, James Vergil “Chip” Leavy and his wife, Crystale, of Springfield, TN; four grandsons, Mason and Nathaniel Whitehill, Joseph Leavy and his wife, Darcy, and Thomas A. Leavy and his wife, Valerie; a brother, Thomas A. Leavy and his wife, Joan, of State College, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Dick Leavy; three sisters, Mildred Hutchinson, Ethel Fair, and Florence “Flo” Berlin, and a grandson, David Leavy.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Crawford Memorial Cemetery, Kerr Ave., Emlenton, with Jack’s brother-in-law, the Rev. Herbert Reefer, a Presbyterian minister, officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard of Franklin. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hile Funeral Home Inc., St. Petersburg.
