Hazel G. (Cox) Thomas

Hazel G. “Gerry” Thomas, 78, of  Emlenton, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, October 09, 2018 at Clarview Nursing Home in Sligo. 

Hazel was born in Clarksburg, WV on December 13, 1939.  She was the daughter of the late Gerald McHenry and Mary Dill Hughes Cox.  She was a member of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church.  Gerry had resided at Bridgeview Apartments in Emlenton for the past several years where she enjoyed helping others, playing bingo, working on puzzles, and the company of family and friends.  In her earlier years, Gerry was an EMT and was a volunteer crew member for the Emlenton Area Ambulance Service.  She was proud to have earned her GED later in life.  Gerry had been employed at Industrial Colloids and the Emlenton Post Office as a janitor and was employed as a nurses’ aide at Clarview Nursing Home in Sligo.

Gerry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Thomas, whom she married on on March 8, 1958 in Clarksburg, WV.  Gerry was a devoted US Air Force wife during his twenty-two year military career. 

Surviving are five children, Donna Bay and her husband, Gerald, of Erie, Mary Boorech and her companion, Dave Schreffler, of Emlenton, Barbara Stewart and Janet Merwin and her husband, Ken, all of Parker, and Danny Thomas and his wife, Cassie, of Oil City;  eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah, Matt, Rodney, Jamie, Andrea, Michael, and Amber; thirteen great grandchildren, Cameron, Dominick, Ethan, Madeline “Maddie”, Gillian, Daphne, Rachael, Jordan, Owen, Easton, Olivia, Jamison and Branson, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert “Bobby” Merwin who passed away on July 30, 2011. 

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton, from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday.  A funeral service will follow from the funeral home at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Darrell Knopp, pastor of the Emlenton Presbyterian Church, officiating.  Interment will be in Emlenton Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Mrs. Thomas’ name may be made to the Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, P.O.
