Daniel Lawrence Goldinger, 81, of Chicora, died peacefully on Thursday, July 26, 2018, after a short illness.
Born in Vandergrift on March 1, 1937, he was the only child of Homer and Vida (Shellhammer) Goldinger.
A lifelong resident of Chicora, he attended the one-room school in Rattigan and graduated from Karns City High School in 1955.
He worked for many years at Ellenberger Lumber building homes in the local area. He retired from Indspec after 22 years of service. Dan loved a road trip and country music and drove his young family to the west coast for the first time in 1966 and visited Opryland near Nashville on multiple occasions. For the last 30 years, he lived in the home he built overlooking the family farm where he continued to work hard, run his own sawmill, ride four wheelers, and spend time with family.
He attended the Chicora Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He married Mary Ellen Ross of Butler in 1956, and they were married nearly 60 years before her death in 2016. He is survived by three children, Marcy Phipps and her husband, James, of Lancaster, SC, James Goldinger and his wife, Kathy, of Worthington, and Matthew Goldinger and his wife, Kerri, of Latrobe; three granddaughters, Megan Klingensmith and her husband, Charles, and Courtney Bellin and her husband, Matt, of Butler, and Brittany Goldinger of Pittsburgh, and two great grandsons, Grady and Daniel Klingensmith of Butler.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday. A memorial service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Keith Welch, officiating. For additional information or to send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com.
