Dale L. “Bud” Barnhart, 89, a well known Chicora resident and long time borough councilman, passed away early Friday Morning, August 3, 2018 at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Dale was born in Chicora on April 8, 1929. He was the son of Charles L. and Bertha Hilgar Barnhart. Bud was a 1948 graduate of Chicora High School and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Bud belonged to the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church in Knox. He served several terms on Chicora Borough Council where he held various offices. He was a life member of the Chicora Fire Department and had served the department as Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of the Chicora Argyle Lodge # 540 F&AM as well as the New Castle Shriners. He was a life member of the Chicora Moose. Bud enjoyed camping at Wolf’s Camp Ground in Knox, and spending winters in Lorida, Florida where he enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends. Bud most especially enjoyed the company of his grand kids.
Bud is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Hutchison Barnhart, whom he married in Chicora on January 12, 1951. Also surviving are two daughters, Debbie Sheakley and her husband, Doug, of Karns City, Laurie D. Young and her husband, Ron, of Chicora; three grandchildren, Shaun D. Sheakley of Karns City, Jason Young of Chicora, and Jamie Saylor and her husband, Bob, of Bruin; five great grandchildren, Marlee and Danika Sheakley, and Austin, Amber, and Sydney Young; a brother-in-law, Dick Craig of Chicora; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Miller Stark of Chicora and Pat Hutchison of Florida, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Craig; his in-laws, Arnold “Zeke” and Mildred “Mid” Hutchison, and two brothers-in-law Don Hutchison and Dick Miller.
Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Dan Myers, former pastor of the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home on Monday by the Chicora, Brady’s Bend, and East Brady American Legion Posts. The Chicora Fire Department will hold a memorial service at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home and will provide funeral honors on Monday.
