Carl Switzer Obituary

Carl E. Switzer, 74, of Petrolia, went to be with the Lord Friday afternoon, March 2, 2018 at Butler Memorial Hospital while surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Carl was born in Parker, Hovey Twp., Armstrong County on August 14, 1943.  He was the son of the late William F. and Esther M. Weaver Switzer.

He was a graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School.  Carl was a long time member of the Petrolia Evangelical Presbyterian Church.  He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the war in Vietnam. Carl was a member of the Parker VFW, the Brady’s Bend American Legion, and the Chicora Moose Lodge.  Carl was a life member of the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Dept. and had served as president and in  various other offices.

Carl had been employed in the hydroplant at Witco Chemical Co. in Petrolia and retired in 2007 following 40 years of service.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his buddies, camping and NASCAR races, and most especially the company of his great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Craig Switzer, whom he married at the Queenstown United Methodist Church on November 9, 1963. 

Also surviving are two children, Kevin E. Switzer and his wife Cynthia, of Karns City and Cherri L. Maurhoff of Petrolia; three grandchildren, Tiffany R. Switzer and her fiancé, Blake Gallagher of Butler, Dustin F. Maurhoff of Davie, FL, and Justin M. Switzer and his girlfriend, Shelby Rankin of Rimersburg; two step grandchildren, Marcus Garris and Angie Garris; two great grandchildren, Declan Gallagher and Jett Switzer; three step great grandchildren, Emma, Austin, and Isabelle Garris; a special great nephew, Dawson Goodman; a godson, Christopher Carl Beckstine of Boise, ID; two sisters, Norma Jean Switzer of Youngstown, OH and Linda Thiess of Strattanville, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Merle; two sisters, Mae and Margie, as well as infant twin brothers.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral of Karns City, 128 Main Street, Karns City, from Noon – 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from Noon – 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Petrolia Evangelical Presbyterian Church where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Perry, church pastor, officiating.  Interment with military honors accorded by the Brady’s Bend, East Brady and Chicora American Legion posts will follow at Hillview Cemetery, Kepples Corners.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Petrolia VFD, PO Box 237, Petrolia, PA 16050 or the Petrolia Evangelical Presbyterian Church, PO Box 274, Petrolia, PA 16050.  For additional information or to send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com.
