SSG Henry Burton Card Jr., 76, of Emlenton, passed away on January 18, 2024.
Henry was born in Franklin on March 25, 1947 to Henry B. Card Sr. and Florence O. Fulmer Card.
Henry was a graduate of A-C Valley High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served as SSG for two tours in Vietnam 1967-68 and 1972-73. He retired from the Army in 1978, following 13 years of service. Henry also owned and operated Jr.’s Custom Auto Detailing in Seymour, Connecticut for 26 years, where he made many friends. After retirement, he moved back home to Emlenton in 2019. Henry was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW and was a Junior Vice in Seymour, and Treasurer of the Cherry Valley VFW.
Henry is survived by his girlfriend of 33 years, Jennifer Roberts; daughters, Lena Card McCarty of Concord, Vermont and Carrie Card Bulluss of Bristol, Conecticut; a son, Henry B. Card III of St. Johnsbury, Vermont; stepdaughters, Sharon Roberts of Bristol, Connecticut and Sandra Faircloth of Emlenton; ten of his eleven grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Henry is also survived by his brothers, Paul Card (Donna), Anson Card (Cindy), and Roy Card, all of Emlenton, James Card (Kathy) of Bristol, Connecticut; his sisters, Tena Brown (Bob) of Corsica, Florence of Oil City, Reanie Pannell (Ron) of Parma, Ohio, and Gertrude Hanzley (John) of Mounds View, Minnesota.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Sonny, Charles, and Georgie; his sisters, Mary, Nancy, and Gladys; a grandson, Peter; a nephew, Leland, and a niece, Jennifer.
He loved his dogs, Jelly Bean, Molly, and his buddy, pal, and friend, Maximus.
A graveside service will be held on July 26, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the Scrubgrass Church Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hile Funeral Home Inc., Emlenton. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
