Virginia M. Rumbaugh

Virginia M. Rumbaugh, 78, of Grant Street, East Brady, passed away unexpected Monday evening, June 27, 2016 at her home.

Born in Kaylor on September 2, 1937, Virginia was the daughter of the late Wilbur P. and Helen V. McElhaney Rumbaugh .

She attended the former Kaylor School and graduated from Karns City High School in 1955. 

She was a member of St. Paul’s Community Church in Chicora.

Virginia began her working career in Murphy’s store in downtown Butler and then was employed for over 40 years at the grocery store in East Brady working for several different owners.

She was a member of Kaylor Grange for 64 years and was a member of Armstrong County Pomona Grange.  She served in many positions and was elected the first female grange master in the Armstrong County.  She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Grange serving a term on the state youth committee and also belonged to the National Grange.  She and her sisters were well known for hosting bus tours for more than 25 years.  She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, playing cards, and sending greeting cards to cheer family and friends.

Virginia is survived by her siblings, Howard Lee Rumbaugh and his wife, Cheryl, of Cabot, Robert W. Rumbaugh and his wife, Dolly, of Chicora, Maxine Smith and her husband, Bill, of East Brady, Alvin C. Rumbaugh and his wife, Tanya, of Chicora, Bernard Rumbaugh and his wife, Dianna, of Chicora, Lois A. Rumbaugh of East Brady, with whom Virginia made her home, and Dennis T. Rumbaugh and his wife, Leann, of Butler; four sisters-in-law, Rachel Rumbaugh of Circleville, OH,  Emily Rumbaugh of Harrisville, Rose Rumbaugh of Chicora, and Cathy Rumbaugh of Cabot, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, Ronald, Richard, Jack, and  Donald, a sister, Ruthie, two nephews, Ronnie and Billy, and a niece, Nancy.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main St., Karns City, (NOT Chicora) from 7 – 9 Wednesday and from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday and from St. Paul’s Community Church, 2167 SR 268, Chicora, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Friday where a funeral service will follow at 3:30 with the Rev. Ryan Lucas, church pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Community Church.  For additional information or to send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com.
