Richard G. McHenry

Richard G. “Dick” McHenry, 89, of Ritts Farm Rd., Emlenton, Richland Twp., Clarion Co., passed away Friday afternoon, May 6, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh following a brief but courageous battle with ALS.

Richard was born in Foxburg on July 17, 1926.  He was the son of Wesley Hillis and Mary Elizabeth Bashline McHenry.

Dick was a 1945 graduate of St. Petersburg-Richland High School.  He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre of Operations. He was Purple Heart recipient.  He was a long-time member of the Foxburg United Methodist Church and had been a member of the Foxburg American Legion Post #636.  Dick enjoyed hunting, watching the Pittsburgh Penguins, and was an avid golfer.  Dick was a family man and would most especially want to be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  Dick retired following 40 years of service as a railroad bridge foreman with CSX.

He is survived by his wife, Yetta Miller McHenry, whom he married at the Foxburg United Methodist  Church on May 29, 1947.  Also surviving are two daughters, Linda M. Fair and her husband, Robert E. “Gene”, of Perryville and Jane L. Wile and her husband, Barry, of Harborcreek; four grandchildren, Shelly Fleming and her husband, Chris, of Emlenton, Jeffrey Fair and his wife, Ana, of Erie, Amy Faulkner and her husband, Scott, of Edinboro, and Holly Hedlund and her husband, Rodney, of Harborcreek; seven great grandchildren, Madelyn Fleming and Mason Fair, Seth and Taylor Faulkner, and Daniel, Jessica, and Janie Hedlund; a brother, John S. McHenry of Texas; a sister-in-law, Judy Dunkle, of Kossuth, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard G. McHenry Jr., who died December 10, 1971, a sister, Betty McHenry, and four brothers, Sharon, Clair, Clyde, and Eugene McHenry.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, from 1 – 3 and 6 – 8 p.m. Monday and from 12 – 1 p.m. Tuesday.  A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Doug Brink, pastor of the Foxburg United Methodist Church, and the Rev.
