Jerry E. Hamil, 70, of Rt. 58, Emlenton, Richland Twp., Clarion Co., passed away Friday evening, May 20, 2016 at the intensive care unit at Clarion Hospital.

Born on August 11, 1945 in Higgins Corners, Butler Co., he was the son of Francis and Mildred Montgomery Hamil. 

He was a 1963 graduate of Moniteau High School. He served in Vietnam, earning many Army commendations and medals including a bronze star medal.  On July 2, 1975 He graduated from the military academy at Ft. Indiantown Gap and was commissioned as 2ndlieutenant.  Jerry became the platoon leader and then the executive officer at the Brookville Reserve Center.  He later became the communications officer at the 429th Engineer Battalion in Uniontown.  He was promoted to captain and was the commander of the Brookville Reserve Center Company A 458thEngineer Battalion.  He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Group in Butler and Foxburg American Legion Post #636.  He was a member and past master of Canby Lodge #520 F&AM in St. Petersburg, the Consistory Valley of Coudersport, the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA, and had been a 32nd degree mason since 1970.  He had been employed at the Quaker State Oil Refining Corporation in Emlenton. Jerry loved spending time with his family and was a huge Steeler fan.

Surviving is his wife, Donna Watson Hamil, whom he married in Knox on May 17, 1969.  The couple had celebrated their 47th anniversary last Wednesday.  Also surviving is a daughter, Karen McGiffin and her husband, Nathan, of Cranberry; four grandchildren whom he affectionately referred to as his little buddy, Brady, the spirited and entertaining Keira, sweet and beautiful Kenzie, and his energetic and funny Declan; a sister, Myrna Hamil; a brother, Larry Hamil, both of Butler, as well as Kaitlyn and Megan Troth. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents. 

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, from 4 – 7 p.m. Monday.  A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Lewis, Pastor of Salem Reformed United Church of Christ, officiating.  Interment with military honors accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard in Franklin will be in St. Petersburg Cemetery.  Members of Canby Lodge #520 F&AM will conduct a memorial service for their departed brother at 7:00 p.m. Monday.  Memorial contributions in Jerry's name may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.  For additional information or to send a condolence, please visit www.hilefh.com
