Cheryl A. (Sample) Phythyon

Cheryl A. Phythyon, 65, of Glenford Village, Chicora, passed away at noon on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Cheryl was born on March 28, 1951 in Sharon.  She was the daughter of Harry W. and Elaine Hooper Sample.

She was a 1969 graduate of Hickory High School in Hermitage.  She graduated in 1977 from Youngstown State University with a B.S. in Elementary Education.  Cheryl found great value in pursuing higher education and she instilled those beliefs in her family.  She was of the protestant faith.  She enjoyed her swimming pool, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.

She retired from OPM in Boyers following more than 25 years of service.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Barry R. Phythyon, whom she married on June 19, 1970.  Also surviving are three children, Carrie A. Wagner and her husband, John, of Petrolia, Amy McConnell of Chicora and her companion, Mike Hedrick, of Karns City, and Shawn M. Phythyon of Natrona Heights; six grandchildren, Tarah Johns and her fiancé, Seth Herrick, of Oil City, Jocelyn Phythyon, Tyler Phythyon, and Aiden Matson, all of Natrona Heights, and Allison McConnell and Hunter McConnell of Chicora; two brothers, Harry Sample and his wife, Jeannie, of Mercer and James Sample and his wife, Mary, of Myerstown; a brother-in-law, William J. Phythyon of Columbus and a sister-in-law, Janice Phythyon of Hermitage, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Bruce Phythyon, and her sister-in-law, Beth Ann Phythyon.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday.  A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Pete Sapp, pastor of Trinity Reformed Church, Brady’s Bend, officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillview Cemetery, Kepple’s Corners.  Memorial contributions in Mrs. Phythyon’s name may be made to the Cheryl A.
